The villa was as promised, secluded, private and peaceful! We were completely unaware of our neighbours. Super, well equipped kitchen which we enjoyed. Pool beautiful! We followed other people’s suggestions and dined at Waterways, En Kefallinia, Il Borgo and Cavo Liakas. All very good. We found a lovely patisserie opposite the fruit and veg market in Argostoli – lovely treats! Very nice waitress who recommended the cheeses in the grocer behind the bus station. Olives there too. Fruit at Carrefour not good, much better to be had at fruit market in town. Lovely week of sunshine! Thank you
We’ve had a fantastic fortnight. A great deal of our time was spent reading & relaxing, and in the pool, just unwinding from work & the London commute. For days out, though, we highly recommend the ‘Greek Wine Experience’ with Dimitris, an extremely knowledgeable wine maker & sommelier – we chose the option incorporating a trip to the Gentilini winery, and lunch locally – and also the Guest boat trip, which was great fun. Karron can organise both of these for you. To eat out, we like Il Borgo, just below the Castle, and in Argostoli, Palia Plaka & most of all Ampelaki both on Metaxa street near the entrance to the port. For shopping if you need a supermarket Carrefour is the best of the bunch and their meat and cheese were OK but much better produce to be found in Argostoli. The Rassias fish market at 10 Antoni Tritse (the Waterfront) was very good, and we also liked the grocery / deli nearby – no 54 – and the other greengrocery almost opposite at no 21 (sorry transliteration not what it should be, but you’ll find them!) Meat market by Metaxata road good too. If you share my expensive habit of buying jewellery on holiday, GG.Garbis on Lithostroto in Argostoli is fantastic. Nick Garbis had a set of stacking rings sized and customised for me in a week. We were lucky with the weather – hot but not too much so. A dramatic thunderstorm provided a spectacular light show on our second night, though, and at about 5PM on our second Friday there was another storm, with rainfall of biblical proportions, but then the sun returned together with a full rainbow – beautiful. The stars are amazing here too. Finally, we cannot praise Karron enough. She has been so helpful, from organising trips to finding an animal charity to take away a dog that had been tethered & abandoned in full sun at the end of the garden by the Pagoda (yes, really). What a wonderful holiday. Our last tip is that the only way to get up the steep slope into the village is to completely “Floor it”
Beautiful Villa with a wonderful view, fantastic pool and in fact everything we could wish for. We especially enjoyed lunch at the café by the Castle and dinner at Cavo Liakas. Viva cooked a fabulous dinner for us, classic Greek including produce from her own garden – the tomatoes were divine. A perfect place to explore this lovely island! Thank you!
Incredibly beautiful & relaxing place, very special island. loved this villa & had a wonderful holiday.
Beautiful villa, beautiful island. Hard not to just relax and switch off!! Loved the pool/loungers and spent many hours there! So lovely to eat out at night – my favourite place was the Olive grove, but there are many other fantastic eateries too – the castle being the most spectacular. Villa well stocked with things to idle the hours away but be warned – the Star Trek jigsaw puzzles are very hard. Stick to the Disney one. Thank you Villa Karala.
Incredible place to relax! I’ve had an amazing time, filled with laughter, food & tanning. I must admit I think I will miss the swinging chair on the balcony the most! Thankyou.
The villa is lovely, and the island gets more beautiful each time I visit! We had a wonderful holiday (highly recommend Spartia beach and jumping off the rocks!) although the rooster is incredibly irritating….
Villa Karala has one of the best views I’ve encountered through the various villas my family and I have stayed in over the last few years. The grounds are especially lovely and I would urge you to make full use of them – the table and chairs at the top of the garden is the PERFECT place to watch the sun set/rise! The Tavernas around Spartia are every holidays main feature and along with tanning as which both are wonderful from Villa Karala. However, the stairs from the upstairs kitchen to the utility room are tricky when holding books, sun cream and a drink (steep & small) and although the WiFi isn’t the most desirable the swinging chair on the balcony and the table tennis fully compensate. Overall, the villa is incredible! Adds to the Kefalonia experience and definitely makes for a wonderful relaxing stay!
spilling over clean white walls,
my cup runneth o’er……
over ancient olive trees,
there to return to
Fantastic holiday! Beautiful Villa! With holiday best wishes S, L, J, D, M, R, C & I
Efharisto poli! Many thanks – a perfect place for us to chill and explore the island, finding non-touristy places aplenty. Our favourites to eat nearby: Cavo Liakas in Spartia – great, tasty, reasonably priced Greek food grown by them. Il Borgo in Castro (St Georges Castle) – again great and reasonably priced mainly Greek customers. Very friendly, amazing views. A bit further afield try: Agia Kiriaki (more or less North from Argostoli), - “restaurant’ on left as you hit the beach – it’s a shack that does really simple seafood – fantastic – they ask you in to choose fish. Petani beach (Owners note: Petani Beach is situated in the North West of the Paliki, in Kefalonia, Greece. The nearest large town is Lixouri) – Erasmia’s Taverna – 1st eating place on the beach you come to. Great sunset, the most fantastic food, especially seafood & incredibly reasonable. NB make sure you have mossie repellent if there at sundown – we were eaten alive. NB main road from Myrtos beach to Fiskardo is closed by a landslide. Platea Amigos (on Paliki peninsula) can’t be accessed, as last earthquake destroyed the steps.
Eight of us plus James age 22 months, came together here to celebrate a 70th birthday – we booked Karala as we wanted space to be separate and to come together – 3 families, 3 generations, from England, New York and Bangkok. The house was given the title the ‘McMansion’ and we learnt how to live together and separately in this great space. Our favourite spaces were the upstairs terrace and the spectacular view; the adjoining kitchen/dining area; the pool area; and the terrace outside the back door with the perfect dining table (we became 11 for some meals) and the barbeque. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed local trips to Argostoli & Travliata to shop, & Spartia for the beach (Sandy). With a 22-month-old, new ‘exploring’ behaviours were rained in. Rory catered for the 70th birthday and did a fantastic job – very professional, interesting menu options. Viva catered for a farewell dinner, equally professional, more classic Greek in her approach. Viva responded calmly to the oven seizing up, an electrician had to be called. On a practical level, the main niggling not quite up to scratch device was the dishwasher – it works but not very effectively (owner note: machine had run out of salt so we have added this to our changeover checklist).
Karron was always there when we had any problems and we are grateful for that.
“Everything as promised” is an understatement. We have stayed in dozens of villas and few come close to this standard. Peace, view and a long pool what else do you need. We are off to Lourdas, a week in another villa. Whilst it is a fantastic location, it is hard leaving Karala.
18th to 27th September 2015
A perfect last minute getaway for myself and my husband. This is a truly wonderful villa, didn’t expect to find another villa downstairs!! Views spectacular, pool is the largest we have had anywhere. DVD’s!! The best selection bar HMV!!! We hired a car and explored the island, Myrtos beach is stunning – Anti Samos the same. Sami is just a port really and not as pretty as other places. Katelios & Kaminia beaches lovely. Skala is pretty with a lovely beach and good selection of restaurants + shops. Argostoli is good too and only 15 mins away. Spent the day there on Friday when the most terrible storm came (lots of rain!!) but it soon clears and beautiful blue skies come again! Close to main supermarkets (AB, LIDL) too. Must mention washing machine! Instructions marked up in English…great! (I wish all Villas did this)!!
Thank you so much Paul, Jo, Amanda and Olivia for allowing us to share your beautiful home.
Thank you to Linda & Mike (housekeeping, very friendly people)
22nd August to 5th September 2015
We’ve had a truly lovely two weeks at Villa Karala. The house is incredibly well equipped and the location (and help from Lynda) fantastic.
We were a party of 8 including a 4.5 and 2 year old and a 10-week-old baby.
Out highlights include Assos (an incredibly pretty little town), the beaches by Lassi (lots of umbrellas which isn’t great but the food and water are lovely), sitting at a tiny pebbled beach just outside Sami (we ditched Anti Samos in favour of it) and Lourdas beach (with a delicious lunch with amazing bread at Lorraine’s Magic Hill – be warned though, the portions are huge) and just relaxing at the Villa.
Thank you. Hopefully one day we’ll come back
13th to 20th August 2015
Had a fab week, Villa lovely, pool just great for relaxing.
Cavo Liakas – food the best – Spartia +30 26710 69536 – worth going to – book and ask for table out front.
Waterways at Spartia beach very good for lunches as well. Beach at Spartia is really nice, especially in the morning & evening – a bit too hot during the day.
Fabulous villa, really well kitted out, fantastic relaxing time.
A fabulous villa with excellent facilities. Beautiful views and lovely friendly locals. We loved every minute.
6th to 13th August 2015
We have had an amazing stay. Our four boys thought this was a Palace and were very excited about swimming in the pool, particularly at night with the lights on!
We couldn’t believe how well equipped the Villa was with every detail thought of. We spent a lot of time by the pool but managed to make it to Spartia beach (highly recommended) for Snorkelling and walking on the rocks.
Had a great afternoon/evening in Argostoli mooching around the shops and eating Gyros and Ice Creams. The walk along the harbours is enchanting.
We loved the tavern in Spartia and the little bar and market stall in the square.
All in all a fantastic stay in a fabulous house
25th July to 5th August 2015
We have had the most fantastic 10 days in this truly delightful home. Everything was absolutely faultless – the layout and furnishings so tasteful. The pool area and views are fantastic. We visited some great tavernas – notable were the organic restaurant En Kefallinia & in Spartia, Cavo Liakas. We also had the recommended Viva (*) to come in and cook us an excellent evening meal and a wonderful breakfast on our last day.
We wanted for nothing and hope sincerely that we will be able to return.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home

This has to be one of the nicest & the most well equipped villas that we have stayed in ever! We stayed here with our two teenage sons who lived downstairs – ideal! The pool and garden areas are magnificent & there was nothing better than sitting on the terrace late evening looking out to Zante with a G+T in hand!
We ate at many lovely Tavernas. The most notable are Cao Liakas (Spartia) The Olive Grove (about 5mins drive on main road: Waterways – good for lunch & Olive Lounge (nr Lourdas). We also used the BBQ too.
We will be sorry to leave this fantastic Villa.
11th to 18th July 2015
Scorchio – hottest week of our lives
Tried our best to explore the islands with our 6 and 7 year old daughters but couldn’t tear them away from the pool and this amazing villa. Although it is an arduous journey, Fiskardo and Foki Bay are worth the effort, lovely swimming in clear water with shade from olive trees. I would have considered staying a night there had we been staying longer. Also did a boat trip to Zante, leaving from Skala, which is about 1 hour away. Captain Vangelis showed us the sights Zakynthos had to offer. Shipwreck bay is a wonderful natural feature, however you only get 10 minutes there and the rest of the trip is ordinary – like herding cattle to various tourist pastures.
We would recommend: -
2) Olive Lounge restaurant (Lourdas) – ask for table in the shade of trees before 8PM
3) Swimming relay races in the pool
4) Cavo Liakas in Spartia – great Calamari
5) This Villa offers ultimate relaxation, so basically leave it as little as possible.
4th to 11th July 2015
Thought I should let you know immediately of an issue with Karala...it's totally unbelievable the largest best-appointed and situated property we've ever stayed in, absolutely incredible!! More later when I've got over the shock!
We have spent a lovely week here. The property setting and facilities are second to none. Many an hour was spent reading and doing crosswords by the pool with trips to Sami, Argostoli, various beaches and the Castle. And a bit of exercise playing table tennis. We BBQ’d one night & ate at various tavernas, of particular note is En Kefallinia (Lakithra) about 10 minutes drive away. The menu is quite small but the food is excellent, the Taverna in a lovely setting and the owners charming.
Re the Villa itself it’s perfect. There were four of us one couple and two teenage children. The latter had their own bedrooms downstairs while we were upstairs, which worked perfectly. The amount of space is fantastic and the general level of furnishings and equipment exemplary. Mike and his wife were very helpful and attentive. In short a great holiday in a fantastic villa.
So we have just experienced 2 weeks of paradise holidaying in the exceptional villa karala.
From the stunning views over the lush green valley, full of birdlife, down to the sparkling blue sea; to the hugely spacious, beautifully decorated, well equipped villa, it totally exceeded our expectations.
The pool was fabulous and at 15 metres allowed some serious swimming as well as lots of fun. Pool towels (and beach towels) are thoughtfully provided.
Literally everything you could possibly require is provided at the villa. The kitchen is really well equipped and made staying in and cooking easy, as did the gas BBQ.
The addition of bunk beds on the first floor allowed us as a family to sleep upstairs and meant myself and my husband could enjoy the amazing views from our pillows. It was a sheer joy to wake up every morning to those views.
The location of the villa is perfect. A 15 minute drive from the airport, supermarkets and vibrant Argostoli complete with resident turtles. We have been to kefalonia many times but this year discovered an amazing authentic taverna in argostoli frequented by locals. It is only open lunchtime and all the lovely fresh dishes are displayed for you to choose from. We had our best food of the holiday here. It made a pleasant change to some very mediocre food enjoyed elsewhere. We ate in one very wet lunchtime and then called in again to take some food away to eat back at the villa. The taverna is called Tziviras and is located up a tiny side street off the front opposite the shell garage. The service here was also excellent.
We can highly recommend trips to Sami, Agia Efimia, Assos and Fiskardo. All stunning places to visit.
Kefalonia is a truly beautiful island and villa karala allows you to enjoy its beauty in serious style. Wish we could live there!
